Everett Silvertips Game 7 & Playoff History
Everett Silvertips Press Release
Everett, WA - The Silvertips and Kelowna Rockets meet for a historic clash Monday evening at Comcast Arena in what will be the first ever Game 7 to be played at Comcast Arena. Everetts two previous Game 7s were held on the road.
On Tuesday, April 27, 2004, the Silvertips defeated the Kelowna Rockets 2-1 in overtime at Prospera Place in one of the most memorable games in Silvertip history. Jeff Harvey stopped 36/37 to punctuate his terrific 2010 postseason campaign as the Silvertips relied on fortitude and some puck luck to advance to the WHL Finals in their inaugural season. The Rockets lone goal came 2:38 into the first period as Harvey kept the game close until late in the third period. With his third postseason goal, Ivan Baranka knotted the game at one when he scored with 3:46 to play in the third period to set up sudden death overtime. That set up Jeff Schmidt's series-clinching goal at 7:56 of overtime, which came off a deflection as the Silvertips won their third straight overtime game to erase a 3-1 series deficit and advance to the finals against the Medicine Hat Tigers.

The Silvertips made it to Game 7s in back to back years when they traveled to Portland on April 5, 2005, to take on the Winterhawks in the final game of the first round of the 2005 WHL Playoffs. Two teams that had been close in the standings all year long, the Silvertips never trailed in a Game 7 that featured more superb Everett goaltending. Mark Kress opened the scoring for Everett 13:55 into the first period with his second goal of the series before Garrett Festerling tied it early in the second with a power play goal for Portland. Alex Leavitt responded with two goals to put Everett out in front 3-1, the first coming on the power play at 9:47 of the second before he added an insurance marker at 10:17 of the third. Though Braydon Coburn brought Portland within one with under a minute to play, the Silvertips held off the Winterhawks attack to advance to a second round series against the Kootenay Ice.
