Everett Silvertips Press Release
Everett, WA - The Everett Silvertips announced Monday that goaltender Thomas Heemskerk has joined the American Hockey League's Worcester Sharks, the top affiliate of the San Jose Sharks. Heemskerk, who recently completed his 19 year old season with the Silvertips, was signed by San Jose in September, 2009.
Heemskerk, a 6'0, 182 pound goalie out of Chilliwack, British Columbia, concluded his third Western Hockey League season by leading the league with a .927 save percentage. He finished with a record of 24-12-2-2 with a 2.34 goals against average. Acquired in January, 2009 from the Kootenay Ice, Heemskerk has appeared in 114 regular season games, posting a record of 55-37-7-6 with a 2.72 goals against average and a .912 save percentage. 69 of his 114 career starts have come in a Silvertips uniform, ranking him third on the franchise's goaltenders' games played list behind Leland Irving (195) and Michael Wall (91).
Thomas experienced a standout rookie camp with San Jose in September, earning two victories against the Anaheim Ducks and stopping 61 of 64 shots en route to his free agent signing. He is one of three Silvertips to sign an NHL contract within the last nine months, a list that also features Kellan Tochkin (Vancouver) and Shane Harper (Philadelphia).
