Silvertips Prepare for WHL Bantam Draft
Everett selects 18th overall in Thursday's draft

Everett, WA - The Everett Silvertips will be looking to bolster their talent and depth during the annual WHL Bantam Draft, held Thursday in Edmonton. By virtue of finishing with the fifth best record in the regular season, the Silvertips will draft 18th overall in the first round, which begins at 8:30 am Mountain Time from the Fantasyland Hotel.
Along with their first round pick, Everett also occupies the 40th, 106th, 133rd, 150th, 194th, 216th and 238th overall slots. All 1995-born players from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon and the Northwest Territories will be eligible for selection at the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft. Players born outside of North America will be available at June's CHL Import Draft.
The Silvertips have shown the ability to secure future high end NHL selections through the bantam draft, taking Peter Mueller (8th overall / Phoenix / 2006), Zach Hamill (8th overall / Boston / 2007), Leland Irving (26th overall / Calgary / 2007) and Brady Calla (40th overall / Florida / 2006) in 2003, Taylor Ellington (41st overall / Vancouver / 2007) in 2004, and Kyle Beach (11th overall / Chicago / 2008) in 2005.
Everett has fared well in recent drafts as well, selecting eventual Vancouver Canucks signee Kellan Tochkin in 2006, 2010 draft-eligible goaltender Kent Simpson in 2007, and standout defenseman Ryan Murray in 2008. Last year, the Silvertips used their two first round selections on a pair of defensemen, St. Albert, AB native Nicholas Walters (8th overall) and Dallas, TX native Seth Jones (11th overall).
The Silvertips will be hosting an ongoing Live Draft Tracker beginning Thursday at 7:15 am Pacific Time, featuring ongoing analysis of Everett's selections, including statistics, scouting reports, and background information.
