Forward Chynoweth, Defenseman Hand Selected by Everett

Everett, WA - The Everett Silvertips selected forward Ryan Chynoweth (24th overall) and defenseman Tye Hand (40th overall) with their second round selections at the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft, held in Edmonton, AB on Thursday.
Chynoweth, a native of Lethbridge, Alberta, recorded 60 points on 21 goals and 39 assists and 78 penalty minutes in 32 games with the AAA Bantam Lethbridge Golden Hawks last season and added another two points with the South Senators in the Alberta Cup. Standing 6'0 and weighing 150 pounds, Ryan is the son of Kootenay Ice General Manager Jeff Chynoweth and grandson of former WHL Commissioner Ed Chynoweth.
"Ryan is a big, physical center who plays both ends of the rink and can chip in offensively," Silvertips Director of Player Development Scott Scoville said. "He's also a model citizen, and someone we want to bring into our organization."
Hand, a native of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, recorded 16 points on two goals and 14 assists along with 70 penalty minutes last season with the Kelowna-based Pursuit of Excellence AAA Bantam team. Standing 6'2 and weighing 170 pounds, Scoville was encouraged by Hand's use of his size.
"Tye is a big, mobile defenseman who can move the puck well. He's a physical defenseman who is very difficult to play against."
Earlier in the day, the Silvertips acquired their second round pick, 24th overall, and a fourth round pick, 68th overall, from the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for Everett's first round pick, 18th overall.
The WHL Bantam Draft is the WHL's talent identification process and serves as the first opportunity for WHL teams to add players to their respective 50 player lists. Eligible players for the Bantam Draft will be 1995-born players who reside in Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
