Everett, WA - Silvertip forward Campbell Elynuik made strong advances on the ice this year as a hard-working and rugged forechecker. From a lanky forward who made his Silvertip debut as a 15 year old two years ago, Campbell looks to further his development on-and-off the ice. He recently fielded questions from broadcaster Jon Rosen on his playing style and his off-season regimen.

JR: How did joining the 'Tips as a 15 year old at the start of the 2008-09 season help you?

CE: It helped me learn a lot from the older guys about what it takes about being more competitive and successful in this league. I'm still only 17, so theres still a lot to learn, but just being around the older guys helped me prepare for this level.

JR: How do you envision your role in 2010-11?

CE: I think I can play a big role as someone who can shut down the other teams top lines. Using my size and speed, and finishing my checks - that's what I'm looking to do next year.

JR: Did you have much experience on special teams at lower levels?

CE: Yeah, I played on both the power play and penalty kill in bantam and midget. One of my goals for next year is to play a part on the PK.

JR: What have the off-season workouts been like?

CE: I've been hitting the gym since the start of the off-season, and I've actually already gained four pounds. I'm weighing in at 188 now, and hoping to get up to 190 or so at the end of the summer.

JR: Though you both have experience as left wings, you and 6'3 Markus McCrea seemed to gel together when placed on the same line last year. How do the two of you use your size to your advantage?

CE: Markus and I are pretty good buddies, and we found that chemistry on the ice. We're both big guys, and found some success on the same line together. We're both trying to finish our checks, keep things simple, and use our size to help create opportunities. The forechecking was one of my strengths last year - being fast to the puck, applying pressure, and trying to create turnovers. That's where Markus and I had some success - by working hard and doing what we do well.

JR: Congratulations to your brother Jackson on his selection by the Kootenay Ice in the WHL Bantam Draft!

CE: Thanks! It was a pretty exciting day for us - it's kind of funny - we were both drafted in the 7th round. He's still growing and could be about my size. He's got incredible hands and sees the ice very well.

JR: Do you have anything fun planned for the summer?

CE: I'll be in Calgary for most of the summer, but every year my dad, my brothers and I head off to Kenora, Ontario - we have a cabin out there. We love to fish on the big freshwater lake, and just be outdoors. It'll be a lot of fun.

JR: We're going to let you get back to enjoying the nice weather in Calgary this week - thanks again, Campbell, for spending some time with EverettSilvertips.com!

CE: Thank you! We're all looking forward to getting back to Everett.
