Chynoweth put up 60 points and 78 PIM in 32 games with the Lethbridge Golden Hawks, winning the team's
Everett, WA - Ryan Chynoweth, Everett's highest draft pick of the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft, recently shared some time with broadcaster Jon Rosen to talk some hockey, including the 2009-10 season in which his Lethbridge Golden Hawks caught fire and embarked on a fulfilling playoff run. Chynoweth discussed taking home the Golden Hawks' "Most Heart" award, as well as his enthusiasm for being a part of the Silvertips organization.

Jon Rosen: We're ready to talk some hockey. Thanks for spending time with Silvertip country today, Ryan!

Ryan Chynoweth: Thanks! No problem!

JR: Tell us a little about the Most Heart award - what aspect of your play helped you win it?

RC: Just coming to the rink every day with my work boots on, ready to give it everything that I have and sacrificing my body to help the team win. At first when I moved away I was a little nervous, but then I settled in and everything just seemed to flow along smoothly.

JR: We're looking at your stats from last year - 21 goals, 39 assists and 60 points in 32 games - is it safe to say that playmaking is one of your strongest abilities?

RC: Oh yeah, for sure, that's definitely one of my strongest points. I'm an energy guy who will do anything necessary to help my team win. I give everything I have. I'm someone who likes to put the puck in the net, but I also like to look pass-first, and just try to make things happen out there.

JR: It sounded like the Lethbridge Golden Hawks had an all-around successful season this year.

RC: It was a great season with a great coach in Chad Kletzel. We started off 1-5, but won 12 straight games and for a while we were the best team in the league. Everything just rolled after that. We had a good run in the playoffs and knocked off the best team in the south. We eventually lost to the team that won the league, so it was and awesome year. We had great coaching, and it was a great experience moving away. I couldn't have asked for anything more.

JR: There are always great draft day stories - where were you when you found out you were drafted by the 'Tips?

RC: I was in the middle of a test, and all of a sudden my phone started going off. It was awesome. I had to ask the teacher if I could go to the washroom for a second, and there were a ton of texts telling me "Congrats!". I still didn't know who I was going to, so I scrolled to the bottom, where my dad told me that Everett took me. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. There was lots of excitement throughout the day.

JR: What goes through the mind of a talented bantam player in his WHL draft year?

RC: I was well-prepared for this year, and tried not to think about the draft too much. I just wanted to play hockey and let everything else handle itself. Definitely, when it got close to the draft after the season ended, I was thinking about it a little more, and by the time the day came, I was sitting there, hoping for the best and waiting. Once it happened, it was amazing.

JR: How excited are you for the opportunity to play in Everett?

RC: It's got to be once of the greatest experiences - getting guidance from a former NHL coach, and trying to develop into a better player. Coming to an organization like Everett, one of the newer teams in the league in a beautiful, new facility is going to be awesome.

JR: What are you working on over the off-season to prepare yourself for your first WHL training camp?

RC: I want to get stronger and work on my skating a bit before I get there, because I want to work hard and have the best possible camp that I can. I want to show them that they made the right choice with their selection, and hopefully come back next year to compete for a spot on the team as a 16-year old.

JR: That's it for today. Enjoy the spring, Ryan, and we'll see you back at Comcast Arena pretty soon!

RC: Thank you!
