Kent Simpson Invited to Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence Goaltending Camp
Everett Silvertips Press Release
Everett, WA - Hockey Canada announced Wednesday that Everett Silvertips goaltender Kent Simpson has been invited to Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence Goaltending Camp, held in Calgary's Norma Bush Arena from June 17-20. The camp is one step in Hockey Canadas evaluation process to fill the U-18 and World Junior Championship teams.
Simpson, 18, completed his 2009-10 Silvertips season by ranking second in the WHL with a 2.26 goals against average and a .925 save percentage, and finished with a 22-9-1-0 record. He was Everett's first round selection, 22nd overall, in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft.
The goaltender has already received significant international experience, backstopping Team Pacific to a silver medal at the 2009 Would U-17 Hockey Challenge, and serving as a goaltender for Hockey Canada at last month's World U-18 Championships.
A 6'2, 182 pound native of Edmonton, AB, Simpson enters next month's NHL Draft as NHL Central Scouting's #3 ranked North America-based goaltender, rising four slots over the course of the 2009-10 season.
This will be Simpson's second consecutive appearance at Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence Goaltending Camp.
Everett's 2009-10 season has concluded, though ticket packages for the 2010-11 season are currently on sale. For ticket information, including season seats and mini-plans, please call the Silvertips' front office at (425) 252-5100.
