Ferraro becomes the first Red Wings prospect to play for the Silvertips.
Everett, WA - Everett Silvertips Vice President / General Manager Doug Soetaert announced Monday that the club has acquired center / right wing Landon Ferraro and a conditional fifth round draft pick in 2012 from the Red Deer Rebels in exchange for center Byron Froese and a third round draft pick in 2012.

Ferraro, 19, was selected in the second round, 32nd overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings. Standing 6'0 and weighing 171 pounds, the Trail, BC native has accumulated 125 points on 66 goals and 59 assists in 179 WHL games. He was a participant in the 2009 CHL Home Hardware Top Prospects Game, earning the fastest skater award at the skills competition. In 53 games with Red Deer last season, Ferraro recorded 46 points on 16 goals and 30 assists, ultimately appearing in two games with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins at the conclusion of the season. His career high in goals is 37, set during the 2008-09 Rebels campaign.

"We're happy to add Landon to our organization and lineup," Soetaert said. "Obviously he has the potential and ability to score big goals while working hard at both ends of the ice. We believe that we have additional options with his ability to play center and right wing equally well, and we're looking forward to him having a breakout season."

Ferraro has also represented Hockey Canada on several occasions, posting four points on two goals and two assists while leading Canada to the Silver Medal at the 2009 World Under-18 Championships. He also appeared as a 16 year old for Team Pacific at the 2008 U-17 Hockey Challenge, recording four points on two goals and two assists.

Froese, 19, departs the Silvertips after having posted 118 points in 142 games. A listed player, Froese earned a spot on the club in 2008-09 and posted 57 points in 72 games, a season that culminated with his selection in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks.

"I want to thank Byron for his contributions over the last two years with the Everett Silvertips," Soetaert said. "We were very pleased to be able to work with him. Byron has shown good commitment and dedication, and we were very happy that he was able to get drafted to the National Hockey League out of our organization. He's worked very hard to be where he's at, and we wish him the absolute best in his future."

The Silvertips begin their eighth season in the Western Hockey League at home on Saturday, September 25th against the rival Vancouver Giants. For interviews, feature articles, and information on season tickets and ticket packages, please visit www.everettsilvertips.com or call (425) 252-5100.
